Often when couples consider starting a family, the primary discussion is whether or not both partners want to have kids. Inevitably, partners typically navigate the co-parenting relationship on assumptions about how the children will be raised and more importantly, how they will manage parenthood truly as partners.
For couples, who ventured below the iceberg to explore parenting values and expectations, the conversations typically occurred early in the relationship before the full demands of parenting were completely understood.
Parenting While Committed
considers the intersection of the parenting relationship and the intimate couple relationship in all of the services we offer.
Connected by their passion for assessment and collaborating with families, Drs. Sanford and Wise have created innovative services to strengthen connection and partnership for committed couples as they navigate parenting.
Few couples proactively engage in ongoing and in-depth dialogues to determine what role each person will have in child-rearing responsibilities, or about how decisions will be made about important considerations such as education choices, role of extended family members, or discipline practices.
Instead, conversations about these factors have reactively as problematic situations arise.
Consequently, differing values and priorities become evident only years later – well down the path of parenthood – and result in hurt and misunderstandings that have the potential for partners to end their intimate relationship.
Offering unique strength-based services to foster connection and partnership for committed couples as they navigate parenting.

Research has shown that when a comprehensive assessment is approached as an intervention, it can be as effective as 6 to 9 months of therapy for some clients!
Parenting While Committed
integrates assessment and therapeutic interventions to support couples who want to experience immediate shifts in their relationships.
As trained psychologists, Drs. Sanford and Wise
deeply believe in the power of therapy. Collectively, they have worked with thousands of children, families, and couples using the traditional approach to counseling, conducted weekly for several months. However, their experiences providing psychological assessments for more than ten years, made them realize the power of concentrated services delivered in less time yet yielding similar or greater results for many clients. Research has shown that when a comprehensive assessment is approached as an intervention, it can be as effective as 6 to 9 months of therapy for some clients. Given these factors, Drs. Wise and Sanford created a unique assessment inventory that is integrated into all services offered to couples and families to better ensure goals and recommendations are uniquely tailored.
